The Power of Unity – One Body, One Heart

September 2nd, 2011

It is so important that we embrace what God is doing in this time, in our church, in our lives.  We need to get behind the vision and RUN with it.  It's our choice.  We are either in unity with the vision or not.  God has prepared us to come alongside of our pastor, to be the ones who run with the vision set before us from God.  When God appointed Moses, He said in Exodus 9:16 "But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth".  That is why God has raised US up, to undergird the vision of our house, to support and acknowledge and DO the vision God has given the appointed man (or woman)…that God's name may be declared and His power can be shown in us.

What's happens when we are out of unity with our pastor's vision?  We're out of unity with God!  And this causes us to operate in witchcraft and come out from under God's protective covering.  A house divided against itself cannot stand; it will become "desolate: or laid waste".

Four Deadly Sins That Threaten Corporate Unity
1.  Murmuring (see Numbers 11:1-3)
2.  Carnality (see Numbers 11:4-6)
3.  Rebellion (see Numbers 12:1)
4.  Unbelief (see Numbers 16:1-3)
We can trust God because His way is perfect.  How many of us can say that about our choices and decisions?  We can trust our pastor and his vision because God has set him/her over us and He even admonishes us to follow our pastor…
Hebrews 13:7 "Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith FOLLOW…"
Hebrews 13:17 "Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account.  Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you."
Following your pastor's vision does not mean you lay aside what God has for you individually…walking out the corporate destiny puts you in position to receive God's blessings and brings you in to proper position to fulfill the call on your life.  We must understand that our destiny is hidden inside our pastor.  The only caution I would have is if your pastor is in breach of Scripture.  If they start passing out the Kool-Aid, it's time to go.  However, if you disagree with the pastor, don't gossip about it, go meet with him/her to get their heart on the matter.  If you still can't see eye-to-eye, leave the church because you will only be a stumbling block to the vision of the house.
The five-fold ministries (as described in Ephesians 4:11) are given to the Body so that we can come to the place where "we all come into the unity of the faith".  Why is unity so important?   Follow along with me and see where God takes this…
Genesis 1:31 "And God saw everything that He had made and behold, it was VERY good"
Here we see a divine pattern of blessing.  After each successive creation, the Creator said it was "good".  However, on the 7th day, when God looked at everything TOGETHER, He said it was VERY GOOD.
When the army of Joshua marched together in the same direction around Jericho, with their mouths shut {a total miracle in and of itself} until it was the time to shout, the walls came down!  It was their unified purpose to follow the vision God gave their leader that led to the wall falling.
Now, this next part is so cool…
Isaiah 52:7 "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, “ Your God reigns!”
Romans 10:15 "And how shall they preach unless they are sent?  As it is written: 'How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!'
Did you notice the transformation made here?  The mystery of salvation began with the beautiful feet of HIM and became the beautiful feet of THEM…the beautiful feet of Jesus have become the feet of the Body.  The New Testament term for beautiful means: belonging to the right hour or season (timely); flourishing.  It describes that which is seasonable, produced at the right time, as of the prime of life, or the time when anything is at its loveliest and best.
Jesus prayed that we would be "one", that we would be made "perfect in one".  Perfect here means to complete; literally – to accomplish…it also means to fulfill.  It comes from the Greek root word that is translated "of full age, man, perfect".
What is this power that comes from unity?  It's called synergy.  Roberts Liardon once was praying and God kept saying over and over, "1+1 does not equal 2".  It was making Roberts frustrated because he didn't understand what the Lord was trying to convey.  Then, the Lord said, "Roberts, one plus one does not equal two because I am not a God of addition, I am a God of multiplication".  He brings forth that power called synergy.  It's the combined action of one or two substances or agencies to achieve an effect greater than that of which each is individually capable.  There is a spiritual law that is put into motion that takes place when we come into agreement with God.  When two or more of us gather together in His name, Jesus arrives in our midst.  We them become co-laborers with God, with His power and authority – not ours – put into motion.  When we do this as a group, the combined effect is greater than what one could do alone.
Have we gotten into proper position to run with the vision God has for our house?  Have we reached out to those around us?  Can we say that we have recognized, heard and followed the vision God has set before us?  Is it not, as Paul said, to our advantage not only to be doing what we began and were desiring to do a year ago; but now…we must complete the doing of it!
